Description

You may have seen the original pencils under Paul Ryan's name - I commissioned Paul at the 1990 Dallas Fantasy Fair to draw 'im for me. I've recently arranged for a few inking commissions, and decided to give Bob Layton's rep, Spencer Beck, a shout to see if Bob would be interested in inking the Ryan piece. For me, Bob's has always been *the* definitive Iron Man artist since his fantastic run with David Michelinie and John Romita Jr. back in the 1970s, and I've always wanted a good IM piece from Bob. I've always loved the piece Paul did for me and was very curious to see what it would look like with Bob's "standard" Iron Man flourishes and rendering, so I ran it by Spencer, he gave me a price, I sent Bob a blueline of the original, and he turned it around within 24 hours. Yep, he had it winging its way back to me a day after he received the blueline. Even though it was fast, it's just a sight to see in person - you would think he'd spent a couple of days on it. A stunning combination from two wonderful artists, and I'm the lucky b*stard doing the happy dance because it's in my collection.
