Phoenix II marker commission by Phil Noto (WWTX 2003)

A weird events transpired after San Diego Comic Con 2003 that led me to receiving this piece from Phil. He was selling some of the remaining pages from Beautiful Killer through his website, and I had a little bit of extra money, so I decided to buy another page. When I contacted him, he said all was good to go, but then I received an email a few days later saying a mistake had been made and that page had already been sold. He apologized, and I said no worries...these things happen. No money had been exchanged, so it was no big deal. He still felt bad and said that at the next convention we both attended, he would draw something of my choice free of charge. I was cool with that, but was not expecting him to really follow through with it or even remember...I mean really, it wasn't a big deal and I hadn't paid for anything.

But being the super nice guy that he is, and a man of his word, We met up at Wizard World Texas 2003, and he remembered me when I came up to say "hi" and he asked what I wanted. I asked if he'd mind drawing Rachel Summers/Phoenix II, and he said sure. I came back the next day and he handed me the piece you see above! BEAUTIFUL! I asked what I could pay...seriously thinking I should pay something, even if just a discounted rate at least...and he said no.

Phil is, and will always be, tops in my book! Thanks again Phil!
