Superman

This is a commission I did for an old friend's four-year-old son who is obsessed with Superman (according to her). I established the sun on the left, which is my way of explaining why only the opposite side of Superman is shaded in marker and pen. From the start I wanted a sky shot and looked at the skies after the latest rainfall. However, I had a problem with the solidity of the clouds if I applied graphic pens all around, so I just did an outline in pen, then did the rest in 10% cool grey marker. In the end it produced the effect I wanted. As to why only the S is colored correctly, I wanted the viewer's eye to catch something familiar and what stood out. This was done on 9 x 12" bristol board.
