Batman in Darkness

I was so inspired by Tim Sale's interview and his work I took it upon myself to try my luck at a 9 x 12" piece in negative space, much like he did for the covers for BATMAN: DARK VICTORY. Of course I incorporated photo reference for the head and hands, but then I inverted the light and shadow, trying to avoid solid lines for the light surfaces. I've tried this experiment once before but I never tried it out on Batman. All in all this experiment was a success.
