Description

Clark really pushed the crayon tones in this piece, giving great weight to both the figures and the space. Clark gave such a dynamic sense to a simply standing figure; not in the Burne Hogarth fashion, but by more subtle means. The thick and thin of the brush lines here does it all.

The caption reads: "The folks are trying to make the old town seem pretty exciting in their letters. Guess they're afraid that I won't be eager to come back after this is all over." 1/16/43
