Description

On January 1, 2009 New Year�s Day, Glen Gold was featured as the Premium
Gallery owner of the week. At the end of his profile, Glen added these personal thoughts. Upon reading them, I was struck at how much I could relate to what he was saying (especially points 1, 4, and 5), so I just thought I�d feature them here so that maybe they might continue to influence some of the younger collectors (or even older ones) who want to get the most out of this wonderful hobby.

Of course there really are no �Golden Rules� and the hobby is only what we make of it. But I for one agree with Glen�s sentiments, and it certainly couldn�t hurt to try one or two of them (if not all). Thanks Glen!

How about *THE* Golden Rule- "Do unto others as you'd have them do unto you". This of course applies unalaterally across all sorts of activities, art collecting not the least of these. in other words, if you want someone to shaft you and or screw up your world then yes, over charge for your art, stampede artists tables so that others can't get art their too, buy up all of the available art (see previous comment), bother artists incessentaly to the point of hatred, and do other crappy things that make people frown. However, if you'd like the art hobby to be good to you, then do good works and leave happy smiles in return. As Eric's comment states, the art will still magically find you!
