Description
In 1935, Donald still with a long beak and skinny body, sold Mickey's courageous newspaper "The Daily War Drum". It attacked the shady activites of PegLeg Pete, alias "Looey The Leg" and his criminal gang who were extorting protection money from merchants and who were also linked with corrupt members of the Town Council, involved in kickbacks from awarded contracts. Retaliation was made on the paper, its owner and its employees. Here you see Donald after he has been roughed up ! - To my knowledge this is the earliest surviving daily strip that contains Donald Duck. It has large multiple images of Donald, Mickey and Minnie along with the thugs Angel Face and Monk. - The strip story was actually titled "Editor In Grief' ", and this was the fourth appearance of Donald in a daily.

These early strips never fail to amaze me for both their action and their detailed artwork.

Incredibly fantastic and important daily. This story is a very nice part of Gottfredson`s comic history.
