Description

I asked Joe Staton to do this sketch of Green Lantern at a convention in 1997. I quickly amended my request by saying "Hal Jordan, that is. Not the new guy, Kyle Rayner." I went on to say that I liked Kyle, and thought he was a good character, but it was a real shame how DC had so totally trashed Hal Jordan in order to introduce Kyle. Staton, who had illustrated numerous wonderful stories featuring Hal over the years, of course agreed with me. He proceeded to do a very nice sketch.

(It should be pointed out that Staton has made some major contributions to the GL mythos, creating Corps members Kilowog, Arisia, and Salaak, as well as designing Guy Gardner's distinctive costume.)

Fast forward a decade, and Hal is finally back, restored to his heroic glory. I just hope that Joe Staton will once again have an opportunity to illustrate Hal's adventures on the printed page.
