Description

It's not often that you wind up with a piece of comic art that strikes the perfect chord at nearly every level. This piece, by Filipino great Federico Javinal, does just that for me. From the wonderfully fluid figure movement, to the lush, lush lines, this drawing simply knocks it out of the park. I love the sense of depth that Javinal created by layering one figure in front of another. But the real beauty here is with the movement and action. The punch by Cap and the subsequent effect on the thug is just great. You really get the sense that the bad guy is going to be knocked right out of the image. Javinal's line work in this piece reminds of a combination of John Romita Sr., Gene Colan and Gil Kane. That's a lush combo platter that I'll take any time. Potentially be my favorite piece in your entire gallery. Very reminiscent of a Lou Fine 1940's cover. Just love it.

It's a great illustration, and I've been banging my head against the wall trying to think of what artist the style reminds me of. You hit it on the nose. Lou Fine.
