Mortimer and Lait reinvented the true crime genre in the late 1940's with their series of Confidentail books- part expose, part true crime and part aguideboosk to vice spots in major cities, these books ahve been very helpful to me in my work wit hmax Allan Collins on hisl Nate heller and other historical mysteries. I was please to get his illo from their article i nthe first and only issue of Ziff Davis's Conflic t magazine
