Description
Nice commission piece done by John Romita in the 70's featuring Spidey, Doc Ock and Mysterio. I purchased this piece from a dealer in 2008 and had Mr. Romita personalize it that same year, hence the 2008 reference.

Hi Mike -- I am the original owner of this piece. It was a commission done for me in the late 70s. My original plan was that John was going to add a board on each side of this board over time and that when it was finished it was going to be the original Sinister Six as the ASM Annual #1 had always been my favorite comic book. Congrats on picking this up.

what is your name?  Do you mind telling me why the other villains were never drawn for this commission?  (or maybe they were drawn, and I just dont know about it.)

Anyway, I'm thinking of having John Romita, Jr do the other villains to complete the piece, altho I don't think he does commissions anymore?

Back in the late 70s I had a comic shop in southern NJ and would have many of the NY area artists & writers come to the shop to do sketch and sign sessions.  I also would buy artwork from the artists during those visits.  I got to know Romita Sr and this was the first board that he did.  Unfortunately we never got to complete the other 2 planned additional boards (one on each side) to complete my vision.  Enjoy, its a great piece!

I had run across this piece a few years back on a dealer's site. I loved this piece as soon as I laid eyes on it. Unfortunately, I simply couldn't afford it at the time. However, it always does my heart good to see it fall into the hands of a fellowfan that truly appreciates the art more than the dollar value. So, congratulations on an outstanding piece of art by one of the very best. Good move, Mike!
