From what I can tell, these are prelims for the last two panels for page 20, the last completed page of Wayne Boring's last story. Page 18 also appears in this subgallery with more explanation. It's labeled as panels 5 and 6, but as you can see from the scan of those panels, he went another direction with panel 6. Panel 5 illustrates how artists will sometimes draw a whole figure just so that the part onscreen is correct.


Since this has so much white space, I thought I'd illustrate on of Wayne's eccentricities. Despite decades of practice, he never learned how to properly depict a man wearing glasses viewed in profile or slightly from the back. I put in a George Papp detail from my Papp Superboy page to show how it should be done. Don't get me wrong, I dearly love Wayne's work, including its peculiarities.
