Junkville Field Hospital ... 28th US Field Hospital

Here we find a medical unit of the Junkville army giving aid in the battle against the invading army of the flies. Created by the Disney Studio in May of 1945, originating from Silly Symphony stories drawn by Al Taliaferro and Ed Duvall. --- A field hospital platoon supported an infantry division. Its function was to operate solely on casualties hit in the chest, abdomen, or large bone of the leg. Of course, other wounds were fixed at the same time, but the idea was to bring major surgery as close to the line as possible. All other casualties followed the route back to the evacuation hospitals in the rear. Each platoon consisted of about 60 enlisted men, six nurses, and about a half dozen surgeons. It was small enough to pack into six trucks or so that would keep up with the advancing battle line. Moving as the front moves it unloaded, set up, operated, tore down, loaded, moved, and set up again. --- This unit is purported to have seen heavy action with the Fourth Infantry Division. --- Insigne published in DISNEY DONS DOGTAGS by Walton Rawls, Abbeville Press, 1992, p61.
