Description

This lovely piece by Heather Martin is another textbook case of how to do a good pin up. This one is in the more minimalist style currently most associated with Bruce Timm. This takes a sure hand, a good eye and an understanding of female beauty. The lines are clean and soft. Lady-like features start with abundant hair that looks lush and inviting, then going down through big heavy-lidded eyes shaped to suggest eyelashes, with large irises that look directly at the viewer, just the suggestion of a nose, a sensuous mouth with full lips with the mouth parted. Smooth soft lines all define the body, which is both sensual and tight. Notice the general lack of angularity, the hand with the delicate little fingers. Her modesty is partly kept by a fortuitously-placed curl and star blossom. Some poetic license is taken on her bottom, making it more discrete than it would be in real life in that position. Believe it or not, this was based on Heather’s Red Sonia with suggestions regarding pose etc. from me. The hush puppies are my doing. Not liking the fur-topped boots, I suggested other kinds of footwear, including slippers, she chose what you see, and I called the picture perfect from the preliminary sketch. This is what happens when you are a guy who cares nothing at all about women’s feet. I think the shoes give this an innocent touch of reality.
