Description

Here's an unpublished original Varnae brush-and-ink, wash and colored pencil piece from the original art for Bizarre Adventures #33! Read on, and please read carefully so you know what you're getting if you purchase this rarity...

I've mounted this vintage original (circa 1982), which was rendered on two-ply Bristol 'Marvel' board, on to a sheet of three-ply Bristol Board, so it's frameable as is. The total measures about 8 1/2" x 8 3/4" -- almost square. The 1982 paper has slightly discolored with age, but the original is otherwise in perfect condition and has not had any touchups done -- it remains as it was drawn in 1982!

This ultra-rare original Varnae artwork is only $95 plus shipping ($7.30 Priority Mail shipping in US, foreign ship will run more, of course), for the first to contact me via email at msbissette@yahoo.com.

This has an interesting history -- it is a piece cut from the original board during the completion of the story. I didn't like how this Varnae figure worked with the rest of the page, so I clipped it from the board and pasted in a brand-new figure, reworking the artwork and completing the page to my satisfaction.

This was painted back in 1982 for writer Steve Perry's and my Dracula story, "The Blood Bequest," which indeed introduced Varnae the Vampire as a new and original twist for Dracula's origin in terms of the Marvel Universe.

Varnae was our contribution to the Marvel Universe, crafted with love but under Marvel's rigorous work-for-hire terms. As you Marvel fans well know, Varnae has since been elevated to the official pantheon. Too bad we never get any credit for that, but hey, we knew the rules going in, having fought to preserve a 'thank you' nod to Marv Wolfman and Neal Adams on the credit scroll for "The Blood Bequest" which Marvel editorial vindictively removed (they were mucho pissed at Marv at the time).
