DUCKS FAMILY - BLACK (1990's)

When I received these light and frail pieces of vellum paper, I realized I had eventually found out what kind of stuff dreams are made of.

Duckburg, as drawn by Barks, is one of the earliest images of the outer world I recall from my childhood. As an adult, both traveling different countries and living in my own place, I have regretted quite often that the actual world was so completely different from anything I saw while looking at Barks comics when I was seven years old. I could stare at a Barks' city, or country, or landscape for much longer than I could have done with the drawings of any other artist. In his tiny panels he was able to really "open" a third dimension, in which you could get lost, and wander with your fantasy for hours.

Taking for granted that i couldn't be on drugs at such an early age, nowadays I think that there is only one reasonable explanation for that feeling: that Carl Barks in his comics was not depicting the actual world, but portraying heavens.
