Dakor - The Magician Detective

Dakor the Magician Mystic Comics #1 – 3 (March 1940 – June 1940) Dakor was an unusual combination of stage magician and soldier of fortune. In his three chronicled adventures, Dakor's assignments took him to the Far East, Southeast Asia and darkest Africa. It was never clear whether Dakor actually had any genuine mystical powers, or just relied on hypnotism and stage magic trickery. Certainly none of his opponents were possessed of any supernatural abilities. Nevertheless, legitimately magical or not, he always managed to get the job done. Another distinguishing feature was that unlike other comic magicians, Mandrake, Zatara, Ibis and so on, who all tended to be lean, if not hawkishly gaunt, Dakor was definitely a man who enjoyed a good meal. And why not? He could certainly afford it. His fee in his first adventure was $50,000; a pretty respectable payday for 1940.
