FLASH GORDON COVER BY GIL KANE RECREATED BY DAN ADKINS
FLASH GORDON #2, the 1960's King Comics issue. Dan Adkins didn't have anything to do with the original cover, but wanted to ink Gil Kane again, something he hasn't done for many years. Back in the 60's and 70's, Dan inked Kane's Warlock and Captain Marvel, as well as many other stories and covers.

So to be clear, this is an original 2009 drawiing, pencilled and inked by Dan Adkins, a recreation of a 1960's cover pencilled and inked by Gil Kane. The art measures 11 by 15.5 inches, with almost an inch border all around, on a sheet of 100 lb strathmore bristol board.

In my opinion, Dan's version is slightly better than Gil's. I don't mean to downgrade Kane's talent, but he rarely inked his own work, concentrating on his excellent pencilling skills. Dan specialized in inking for most of his career. Look at the monster's teeth and his foot under his head. Dan's inking is just sharper overall.

As usual with Dan's originals, there isn't a blemish or a speck of white-out.
