Spark by Jeffrey Moy

As I mentioned in the introduction of this gallery, late in 1996, I decided to start a second sketchbook. I had one book already in progress, but my love of the Legion of Super-Heroes, as well as the fact I began to hear of others with theme books, I was compelled to start one of my own. I would collect sketches of different artists’ favorite member of the Legion. Who better to start the book, than the then-current penciller of Legionnaires, and my favorite artist at the time, Jeff Moy.

I had met Jeff at a prior Comicon in Chicago, and really got acquainted with him. He had even dubbed me “Lost Art Lad,” for reasons I won’t get into here. I had kept in touch with him a little over e-mail, and asked him if he would be willing to start my sketchbook. He told me to send him the book and he would be happy to oblige.

In my prior talks with him, Jeff had made it very clear his favorite Legionnaire was Spark. He had asked me if it would be okay to do the picture a little risqué. I agreed, and you see the finished product, along with a humorous quote.
