Description
This is the second page of the two page sequence, from Two-Fisted Tales #25 (1952). I decided on this page first, then thought that it would be really great to have the sequence, since they naturally go together. As far as I'm concerned, this is Jack Davis at his best. No, it's not the finer pen & ink work that you'd find in MAD, but I prefer the work in "MUD". The brush work has that slap-dash ink-slinging quality that I so love in Davis' work. And the Kurtzman layouts give it that cinematographic quality that is just wonderful. The center tier reads like frames from a film. While this page doesn't have the character of mud as much as other pages in the story, the action more than makes up for.

Tip 'o the Hatlo Hat #2 to Mike Burkey.

Good to see this artwork being appreciated. "Mud!" was always one of my favorite Davis War stories. I owned the complete story for many years (bought iit directly from Russ Cochran in auction for $550 late 1982). Splitting the story up has benefitted a number of appreciative collectors, but I'm kind of sad to see it happen. Pages 2 and 3 were the highlights of the story for me - but each to his own. Congrats!

I thought about this page too long and you snagged it. Kickin' myself ever since. Its the best from that story for my money, and they're all good.

A wonderful addition to an outstanding collection! Jack Davis is one of those heavily underrated geniuses you can still afford (but don't tell anybody ;-).
