Description

This is, I believe, the very first comic book interior page I bought, in 1998 if I remember correctly.

I would say that with Kingdom Come, this is my favorite Alex Ross' work in terms of pure beauty.

I am also a huge fan of the story and I do think that with the recent decade events, reading Uncle Sam should be mandatory for quite a few of our.... "deciders", should I say;-)

This particular page is a small grail for me because of the content itself: a more radical Smokey bear with an Uncle Sam attitude saying "I want you" to the main character passing by.

Obviously framed and always on display in the house!!

I wholeheartedly agree with your assessment of "Uncle Sam." Artistically, I think it is Ross' best work, much better, in fact, than any of his superhero works (of which, I am also a fan). And instead of filling these pages with eye-candy like shots of famous "guest stars," as he had done previously, he instead found ways to include bits of Americana and pop culture in ironic and thought-provoking ways.

Great point about required reading for "deciders." I own the two-page spread of Chicago's Columbian Exposition, and it hangs, as my grail, in my kitchen. Ross killed on these books.

Ahhh, this is a beautiful page from what is, in my opinion, the best Alex's story. Congratz!
