Description
Though I love all the pieces in my collection, this piece would be the one out the door with me in a fire. I bought this at the 1992 San Diego Comic Con from Roger Reed, at the time when the Sterling Publications archives where coming up for sale. It's hard to believe that was 18 years ago! This piece was the one that sparked my fire for George Gross art, leading to two visits to his home and a passion for his art that has not subsided since.
George used reference photos of Norma Jean Daugherty, who later became known as Marilyn Monroe for the woman and the unmistakable profile of Rondo Hatton as the menacing figure behind the curtain.
This was published as the cover to Phantom Books "Crime on Her Hands" c.1952.

Really like this one. And you gotta love Rondo Hatton! Did you notice the obvious Rondo Hatton 'jewel thief' on my True Crime cover ?

My favorite of all of George's work! I remember seeing pics of this one in my youth; always thought it was lost to time in a flood. Simply Great!
