Description
(September 1942) (Quality Comics) The pliable Plastic Man emerges from a test tube to squirt a chemical in a mad scientist's eye. The character line-up running down the left edge is all original art by Gill Fox, not stats, and it features superb portraits of The Spirit, Manhunter, #711, Chic Carter, and The Human Bomb. This cover art example not only features the 7th Cover Appearance of Plastic Man and the 1st Cover Appearance of The Spirit, but it also showcases The Spirit’s 1st Comic Book Appearance as well. In addition, Police Comics #11 is the issue that actually begins The Spirit reprints by Will Eisner starting with a retelling of The Spirit’s “origin” in Strip #1. Gill Fox's art shows the influence of his peers and close friends Jack Cole and Lou Fine. Gill Fox’s first cover for Quality Comics was a Doll Man cover for Feature Comics #54 in March of 1942, and he soon followed it with this, his personal-favorite and most renowned Plastic Man cover: Police Comics #11. (9" x 12")
