Description

Folks that have been around a while may recognize Mike's name from his work on Justice Machine or New Mutants or other comics in the 80s and 90s. I first got introduced to Mike's art when my mom (who was a school teacher) asked him to come to speak at a career day. Mike was a youngster looking at getting into comics in the mid-70s and she asked him if he could do a sketch for her young boys who loved comics. I thought that was about the coolest thing ever.

So, fast forward 30 years and I track down Mike and thank him. I ask him if he's willing to do a piece for me and he agrees. Mike's in Ohio near my hometown, so I put something together very Ohio-centric. He was game, but couldn't make it work - so he did his own thing.

This is flat out fantastic and reminds me of Bernie Wrightson's work. You can tell Mike is definitely from an older era where detail, form ,depth and craft were valued. I haven't see many people that can match his expressiveness with a pencil. Mike is on Facebook, check him out and tell him I sent you!

Absolutely gorgeous, Jon!! So happy to see Mike not only still "has it" but he's made "it" even better. You should be proud to have it in your collection. Thank you for sharing its inspiration!
