This was a commission I asked Gahan's agent for. About two weeks later, I met Gahan at the MoCCA Festival and we talked about the commission and he was excited to work on it. (We both bashed the Johnny Depp Alice in Wonderland movie) Along with the commission was a wonderful note from Gahan detailing how he was familiar with the character from when he was a kid, and how the original Tenniel drawings still inspire him.
