Description

I'm blessed to own this Cardy masterpiece. This and my Action 440 are two of Nick's strongest Superman covers. In my AP Art History classes I teach students what makes a work of art great. I talk about things like composition, balance, focal point etc. After showing them works by Goya (3rd of May) and Durer (Fall of Man) I took out this cover and had the students explain whether it was artistically balanced and asked if they could identify the focal point, etc. When one of the students asked me if the cover was a "great" work of art, I immediately answered "of course." In years from now when they choose which works of comic art are to be hung in museums, they won't care who drew avengers one sixty something. They will look for pieces that are great works of art, looking for some of the things I discussed with my students.
