DescriptionThis is a really cool commission that I have waited over a year and a half for, but was blown away when I finally actually got it in my hands. I have loved Weshoyot's art for a while now, since I first came across it. I see a lot of potential in her work, and have always bought pages from whatever she does. So after a while, a commission seemed the way to go. But it was a long time coming, as she worked on it from time to time as she could, between projects and life, and she always replied to my update requests and sent me pics along the way to see how it was coming along. (which I posted as well as additional images:) So I was happy to wait, because I knew it would be worth it, and I wasn't disappointed. With her style and use of markers and mixed media to do commission pieces, we discussed her doing a Danger Girl piece for me, as I have always seen a bit of J. Scott Campbell's style in her work. So then we needed a theme, and the ones I threw out were either a retro space theme or a WWII era poster or bomber pinup theme, which I had been considering doing as my commission theme for a while, but since I don't get many commissions, I hadn't done anything with the idea. So this seemed the best time to do them, so she did 2 theme thumbnails, with one being this and the other a more Barbarella girls in space theme. When she came back with this one, I knew which to choose:) She used the old Andrews Sisters posters from that era as a homage, and then used sepia and gray toned markers to give it that look that just can't be seen if not in person, so I included lots of close ups:) The scan cuts off some of Natalia's arm, so below in the additional pics area I will post several images that show it in various stages, from prelim pitch, to pencils, to inks, to markers to a digital pic of a entire piece, since the scans trims some of it. It was a wild ride, but the end result is so much better than you can see in the scan. But definitely a keeper, and really assures me that this theme has a lot of potential for my future commissions:) Social/Sharing |
