Description

Original write-up: "The lead in to the first full appearance of Thanos with Mar-vell and the Thing confronting him for the first time."

Addendum: Since I posted this page many years ago without much fanfare, a sub-set of original art collecting has taken hold of our 'investment' hobby now. Without identifying the numerous collectors who have elevated birth and first appearance original art pages to all time highs, many arguments are out there that has challenged many people with Thanos' first real appearance. Yes, he appeared as robot in Iron Man 55. Technically, that is his birth and first appearance as a character, regardless of whether he was an organic being or a robot being. We then have Starlin's first tease of his slight real appearance from Captain Marvel 25, page 3. Captain Marvel 26 was when Starlin fully revealed the villain in his organic form. Again, Starlin teased many slight images (including this page) prior to his full-page splash reveal. As a result, I changed the title heading now that I have moved this to my Featured gallery section.

Tremendous page !!!! I'm so jealous as well and sitting next to Dave to stare this jewel !!!! Love Thanos big cameo 1st appearance and I especially like the petrified Skrull !!!!! What a page !!!!!

Gorgeous work by Jim Starlin and Dave Cockrum! I love the way Starlin drew the Thing and Captain Marvel here. But of course, it's all about the bottom panel--The silhouette prior to the reveal. Nice pick-up!
