About the artist

Charel Cambré
(b. 1968, Belgium)
Charel Cambré is a Flemish illustrator and animator. He studied arts in Lier for three years, and then spent another four years at the Animation Academy in Gent. He cooperated with several French and German animation projects through Graphics & Animations in Antwerp and worked in advertising through Disket in Turnhout. He also drew cartoons for magazines, including the weekly feature 'Jaak' in Vacature. In the late 1990s he proposed his gag comic 'Streetkids' to Suske en Wiske Weekblad, and was accepted.

In Dag Allemaal, he drew two stories with 'De Pfaffs', a strip based on the popular docusoap about the former goalkeeper of the Belgian national soccerteam, Jean-Marie Pfaff. Afterwards, Cambré went to work for Studio 100, together with Luc Morjaeu and Bruno de Roover. In cooperation with inkers Steven Dupré and Randall.C, he worked on the comics based on the TV series 'Spring' and 'Mega Mindy', as well as 'Big en Betsy'. In addition, he followed Morjeau to join Studio Vandersteen after the departure of Marc Verhaegen, and began assisting on 'Suske en Wiske' in early 2005.

In 2007 he began his own comic series 'Jump' at Standaard Uitgeverij. Cambré does the scripts and pencil work himself, but he leaves the inking duties to Jan van Rooij. In addition, he took over the 'K3' comic from Patriek Roelens in 2009 (scripts Jan Ruysbergh, ink Pol Vierset) and he began a satirical comic about the Belgian King, 'Albert & Co', in Story 2008.
