Hogarth, Burne - Tarzan - 1968

Originally drawn for collector John Mansfield in 1968. Mansfield is the collector who helped John Byrne get his first fanzine and later professional work. A lovely little portrait of the character who Hogarth is best known for drawing. Ironically Hogarth caused all kinds of grief for Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. trying to assert his own copyright on the character. In order to defend their rights in court ERB, Inc. had to sell off much of their own art collection.
