Description
Going through the back issue bins at a recent convention, this vibrant fire engine red cover issue of Combat Tales caught my eye.. The in-your-face, tough guy attitude of the soldier on the cover, made me think of the Legion of Superheroes bad boy turned good..the one and only Ultra Boy. There have been many different incarnations of this hero over Legion history but he is always the guy you want watching your back when the going gets tough . This was my first time to work with fellow CAF'er and artist Gary Martin. He was fun and had a touch of ultra-speed in completing this.I highly recomend him to others looking for a commission. We added fun elements like a tatoo on our hero's arm. the tatoo image represents ; the Mission Moniter Board symbol of his long time Legion love : Phantom Girl. Chris Ivy and I were working on other pieces and decided to add an ink wash with some half-tones to help duplicate the gritty effect of the original G.I Cover

Exceptional piece---I especially like tattoo on Jo's arm, and the detail in the face is reminiscent of Curt Swan yet very modern at the same time. Congratulations!
