Description
Art Spiegelman and I became friends during his tenure on Arcade the Comics Revue magazine he co-edited with Zippy creator Bill Griffith which had its format tweaked larger size a bit later into the phenomenal selling Raw!

Before my hip joint cartilage blew out into bone on bone in 2006 for quite a few years I used to travel into New York City for comicons. Most treks in, Art and I would get-together in his NYC studio for hours long comics research projects as he helped me fathom the artifacts I was uncovering from the 1800s.

Here he drew us together June 13, 2000 with him as Maus and me as Obadiah Oldbuck in a Rodolphe Topffer style when I came thru with an original printing of the first comic book in America, The Adventures of Obadiah Oldbuck, Wilson & Co, Sept, 1842.

We knew that night that most everything written up to that point regarding the origins of the American comic book and comic strip were simply wrong. We both got goose bumps.

This is one of my favorite sketches in my book. Right now it functions as the "cover" to me two inch thick Comic Book Store Wars manuscript I am working on again.
