Description
This "Justice Society of America" specialty "Christmas Gift" painting by Stan Asch was meticulously rendered in India ink & watercolors and shows a sheet-covered body in an operating room surrounded by 2 men in pith helmets along with Peachy Pet and DC Comics superheroes: Mr. Terrific, Thunderbolt, Starman, Johnny Thunder and superhero surgeon Dr. Mid-Nite with Hooty the owl on his shoulder. Starman asks "Who Is It?" to which Johnny Thunder replies "It's Sheldon!!" Peachy Pet then asks, "Is It Serious?" to which Dr. Mid-Nite replies, "Whaddya Know! This Editor Has A Brain!" The "Sheldon" referenced in this vintage colorful painting refers to long-time Golden-Age Comic Book Artist & DC Comics Editor, Sheldon Mayer. Below the art has an inked inscription "All Kidding Aside - Here's To The Finest Of Friends - And The Best Of Editors. Stan Asch - 12 25 44." Art has nameplate identifying piece and Artist. Stan Aschmeir (1912-1992) who created the DC Comics superheroes: Dr. Mid-Nite along with Johnny Thunder & His Thunderbolt. This wonderful painting is the only time that "THE JSA" was ever painted during The Golden-Age of Comics.

Wow, a vintage Stan Asch piece - how very rare and in color to boot. A gem!
