DescriptionWhen I first saw Stuart Sayger's work, I knew I would have to eventually try and get something from him. His art, striking and impressive, really reminded me of that of Bill Sienkiewicz, one of my longtime art heroes. Because of that resemblance, I always had it in my mind that when I finally got a piece from him--it would feature the New Mutant's Magik, who the aformentioned master rendered so definitively during his run on that book.I decided that I would try and get my Sayger piece when I saw that he would be appearing at the 2011 Heroes Con show. Early to his table, I locked in a spot on his sketch list, then waited for him to work his immense talent on blank paper. When I showed up on the last day of the show, I was of course eager to see what he had done. Mr. Sayger greeted me with a bit of a frown. "I finished your piece," he told me, "but you can't have it." I raised an eyebrow while he continued. "I just don't feel like it's my best work...and I can't let you leave with it. Can I please take it home to have another crack at it?" I was blown away both by his candor and his honesty. It's very rare that you get a chance to see the kind of integrity and dedication Mr. Sayger showed both me and his artwork. So of course, I let him take home the piece. What you see is what he came up with, only ten days later. Powerful and majestic, I couldn't be happier with his rendition of the Russian sorceress; primal and beautiful, he managed to capture the very soul of the character in this piece. Even moreso, I took away a great experience with a true artist: A guy who's truly dedicated both to his craft and his fans. It's an impression I won't forget easily. Thanks, Mr. Sayger!!! :D Social/Sharing |

Very commanding and regal in her stature- seriously, truly one of Stuart's best. Straight up magnificent.

I love the stylized feel to this and the motion in her hair! Draws the eye to her very serious and determined expression!
