DescriptionThe Catwoman : When in Rome cover by Tim Sale is eye-catching in every sense of the word. I was not reading this mini-series but when I saw it on the shelf at my local comic-book store, the layout just drew me in. The striking eyes for some reason made me think of Audrey Hepburn and the glamour of the early 1960's. The title invoked the movie "Roman Holiday " and the cat , reminded me of the unnamed feline from "Breakfast at Tiffany's " that helped Audrey Hepburn's iconic character, Holly GoLightly to find true love.In other words, it had nothing to do with the Legion of Superheroes. No obvious connections but I loved the cover and I wanted it in the Re-Legion Gallery .And thanks to Val Semeiks and a lot of creative brainstorming e-mails back & forth, we made it work. Replacing the cat with Streaky the Supercat was easy but working in the eyes was going to be harder. Then it struck us that of all the Legion members Nura Nal : The White Witch had amazing eyes ( and antennae'. ) that was the hook. Also, Witches and Cats go together like peanut butter and jelly and the rest just clicked into place. It looks a simple piece but trust me, this is a case where an artistic "less "meant more work. Its not easy to get even a Supercat to wink and evoke a "Bewitched" effect but Val did an amazing job.He is a fun guy to work with. This one took on a life of its own but I am so pleased with the end results. Enjoy : When in the 31st Century, even a Supercat needs a Witch. Social/Sharing |

I love pretty much anything with the Legion of Super-Pets and this is no exception. Excellent piece!

Val once again proves why he is one of the best artists producing commissions today. Great addition to one of my favorite CAF galleries.

Killer! As soon as I saw this, I thought, "You should have him draw Streaky vs. Dex-Starr!" Not many artists can draw animals well, and this sure rocks! Great piece.

I have a 30 part Super Pets story lined up called " Infinite Timelines : Beasts of Burden ". The artist handling this ( we are 10 pieces into it ) is a guy called Dave Mc Adoo, like Val, he is gifted at drawing animals. He is very reasonable in pricing and super fun to work with.
