Jim did this piece for me a couple of years before he passed away. I'd asked him to recreate a splash page from a one-shot Subby story published after his 1960's/1970's comic was cancelled, but the original splash had a dead alien floating around in the top part of the picture and I asked Jim to remove him in the reworked version so it would just be Subby swimming around sunken ships. It turned out great, and Jim's note to me with the art said something like "Not bad for an 84-year-old!" Actually, it's a great piece from an artist of any age. As luck would have it, a few weeks after I received the art, Jim put the original published art up for sale on ebay, and I won it, so I've got the original and the recreation, done about 30 years apart, and I treasure both pieces.
