Description
There's a long story behind this one....To begin with, this piece was originally going to be the cover image to PITT #10 I believe, but Dale decided on a different image for the cover and turned this piece into a chase card for the PITT card set instead. Anyway, back to the story. I actually acquired this piece of art on my honeymoon. Yup, my wife (Kelly) is that cool. We were in Toronto for our honeymoon since we didn't have a lot of money to spend on a huge trip at the time. (We've since made up for it tenfold, but that's a different story.) So ,it just so happened (honestly) that the Toronto comic con was going on at the time. I convinced Kelly to go with me for a few hours to just 'check it out'. This was a few years before I started at Top Cow, and I had only met Dale twice before this event. At the con, Dale had given the show promoters this piece to use in an auction they were holding. The auction wasn't until the end of the day though, so we wound up hanging around the con a tad bit longer than Kelly anticipated. She missed out on her shopping. When the auction started, I whispered to my wife that I wasn't going to leave Canada without that piece of art. As people bid and the price increased, it wound up between me and one other person. I would say a bid amount, and he would increase it by $5 or $10 dollars. I can't remember the exact amounts each time, but it was just enough to outbid me and make me bid again. After going through this several times, Kelly leans over and tells me to just increase my bid by $200 so we could make sure that we get it. I didn't have the extra money on me, but she said since she didn't go shopping, I could have the money she had saved for that to spend on the art. How cool was that? Needless to say, I got the art (that is actually half Kelly's) and we hung out with Dale for a while after the show. That was actually one of the first times we had ever hung out as well, so I guess you could say my honeymoon and my wife helped formed my friendship with Dale. Not too shabby!
