Description
1930's Edwin Georgi FRANKENSTEIN illustration, which came from the Georgi estate, and which I believe was done for a movie exhibitor book, probably a year prior to the release of FRANKENSTEIN in 1931. I know Georgi did work for for movie studios in the 1930's, as I've seen another piece he did for SON OF KONG in the same 1930's style.
It seems to me this ranks as the earliest or one of the earliest visual depictions of the monster from Frankenstein. I cannot recall ever seeing anything earlier than this.
A terrific piece, visualized before the 1931 film and Karoff's depiction of Frankenstein stereotyped our image of the monster.
Signed at the bottom.

This is WILD! I always think of Georgi's later pretty girls and innovative use of colors, but this is completely different. In addition to being such an early depiction of Frankenstein, it is just a beautiful painting- it almost has a Moebius before Moebius feel... mostly flat color with a touch of lighting, texture and rendering!

what is interesting is this is a part of the sequence that for years part of whihc  was cut from the movie as being too disturbing
