DescriptionWhy did Bushmiller go to all the trouble of using a photostat in the second panel when it would have taken less effort to simply redraw the characters? Because Ernie Bushmiller moves in mysterious ways. He was as good as ever well into the 70s; but his decline became unmistakable by the end of the decade. This strip originally ran on April 3, 1971, and was later altered for re-use, probably in the early 80's, and after that a previous owner foolishly attempted to remove the alterations. It was also reprinted in Kitchen Sink Press' "Bums, Beatniks, and Hippies" Nancy volume. The real bonus is on the verso of the board, an unfinished rough sketch of the "Hippy Hiippo" from the following day's Sunday strip (see previous collection entry).Social/Sharing |
