DescriptionWhere to start?Back in 2011, I found out through a couple of my friends that James O'Barr was attending the Steel City Con. Now, it's not far from where I live but traveling is difficult due to my health. So, I wrote my friend an e-mail. In that e-mail, yes, I did go on about what an inspiration Mr. O'Barr is to me (especially his 'Pink Dust/Morphine Dreams' book- it's still one of my personal favourites) but what it broke down to was me asking if he minded getting me a signed book by Mr. O'Barr and to add a small butterfly. Why a butterfly? I have a young son who keeps calling me his 'beautiful butterfly with pink and yellow dots'. He has a great imagination and I wanted something special to pass down to him.. and yes, I explained this in the e-mail. For some reason I always think my reasoning has to be explained. lol Anyway, he told me that it wouldn't be a problem as long as Mr. O'Barr had books with him. Well, after some checking with a mutual friend (thanks Joe!!), my friend Brian e-mailed me to say that yes, Mr. O'Barr had new versions that were black. Is that okay? Yes, I was intrigued but I wasn't going to say 'no'. I may be naive but I'm far from foolish! lol My understanding is that when Mr. O'Barr read my e-mail, he went out of his way to make this remark special. When I received the book and saw the work and what he wrote inside- I'm not ashamed to say that I got misty eyed. I showed this to a couple of people and the one thing that they pointed out was his spelling of the word 'foreward'. Well, that was easy to explain why he would use that version- I not only respect Mr. O'Barr for his art but also for his writing. This is a jewel in my collection. I really don't think even Mr. O'Barr knows how much this means to me. I really can't thank him enough. And of course I have to thank Brain Jones and Joe F. They really helped make this happen. You guys are the best!! **What's uncanny is that I've been wanting the newly released 'special edition' of The Crow but the one I received was a printing that I didn't have so it all worked out in that respect. But.. there are still more parts of this story to come. Promise.** ***see additional images to see him working on this remark and if you look through my O'Barr gallery, you'll see a really cool photo of him with a 'shout out' to me. I'm so not worthy. lol *** Social/Sharing |

Simply amazing, Holly. I hesitate to use the word, as it's become kind of trite...but considering how much I know you love and admire Mr. O'Barr's work, I consider this remark to be a true grail-level piece. Congratulations!!! :D

Congratulations!!! :DCarlos, the word 'grail' has caused me some confusion. But because of all the factors leading up to this remark and the obvious care and thought Mr. O'Barr put into this, I do agree with you. And thanks, hon... I really can't express how much this remark truly means to me. :)

Now, Holly, here's very well explained what the Art ultimately means for most or maybe all of us (and obviously I'm not just talking about comic art): It's about feelings, passion, life! I do hope this affectionate wish/exhortation by James (which I gladly share) will be very very auspicious for you!

I've been writing poetry and short stories for awhile and also like to think that the spelling of the word 'foreward' was Mr. O'Barr's way of telling me to not give up. Thank you always for your heartfelt insight, my friend. :)

You got the ball rolling. This means so much and is very special in a way that is hard for me to put into words without getting emotional. Such a highlight in my life.... and James is a sweetheart for making this extra special for me. A true gentleman.

You have no idea how worthy you are love. ;) I really like this and the story behind it. Hope you get many more pieces that you can share with the rest of us. But not so many that you corner the market... come to think of it, you might be ok with that. hehehe... Congrats on a sweet addition to your gallery.

And thank you, this little remarked book is beyond special to me. :)
