I've always loved the Batman. Ever since I can remember, Batman has been my favorite super hero. And a large part of that is his ability to translate into so many genres. Batman can be interpreted in so many ways. However after so mnay years, it's easy to think that all that can be done with the charcater has been done. Then a guy like Kelley Jones comes along, a genius. His take on the character was so fresh---so new---so completely unlike anything that had ever been, that he breathed life (or death in Kelley's case) into the character. The Batman/Dracula trilogy was inspired in every way possible but especially in the collaborative efforts of Kelley Jones and John Beatty, each at the tip of their game. This illusttration is by both artists as only they can depict the Bat!

Beautiful in its extreme Gothic ghoulishness. Kelley is in my top 3 all-time favorite Bat artists, and this is a perfect example of why. The dramatic angles in Batman's costume as it swarms about its urban environment and the ichory gulfs of Beatty's inks give full measure to The Dark Knight's grim determination. A coup, Ari!
