DescriptionI am so excited to own this piece! For collectors who read the old comicart_l list may recall me posting this want again over certain times starting almost 15 years ago. It is my favorite and grail Sal Buscema piece! A combination of nostalgia with incredible coolness of the image makes it that. And I am very gratefull to Bill Thomsons' kindness who remembered this importance to me and made it possible for me to purchase it even though the piece is great for him aswell. THANK YOU.Social/Sharing |

Possibly the best splash in Buscema's run on the Defenders. Buscema in his prime is not second to any other bronze age greats, such as Byrne or Perez. I am so glad this ended up in your hands, it will be a cornerstone of your outstanding Buscema collection.

How is it that the 'Chest Hair' version of Bulldozer's costume never caught on?...

You know I never knew that they would flip the single sheet sideways to set up the double page. I'm just used to how they do it now by joining two sheets. Learn something new everyday.

I'm so glad this ended up with you. When I saw it on Burkey's site and saw that it was on hold I was hoping you had gotten in first. Glad to see it worked out for you.

First: what WKT said. Second, I started reading The Defenders with issue 14 and it took a while to catch up. BY the time this issue came out, I knew what was going on. And when I got to the end, I remember thinking "holy smokes!" It was so striking and so huge I couldn't wait till the next month to know what happened. I totally understand why you've wanted it, and I hope you smile every time you see it on your wall.

Thank you all for your kind words! PS. For me it was also a surprise that it is drawn on one board although I seen it done that way before.

So YOU got this one! By the time I saw it on Mike's site, it was already ON HOLD. If I had seen it sooner, it would be in my gallery! ha! Congratulations Eelco, it is a great page and I am very jealous!

Defenders 17 - what a great issue! - I remember buying this it at the 7-11, riding my bike home to read it...and thought wow! I'd always been a Spidey, FF, Avengers guy but this was my favorite comic book now! Sal's art was so dynamic - just like the Defenders! LOL

Just wanted to come back and torture myself by visiting this piece again. Love the Defenders of course, and loved Sal's great run on the book. Really, really, love the Wrecking Crew too. I can't believe what they did to them on the She-Hulk Disney series. Had to stop watching the show after that. Anyway, congratulations again. A true grail for any Defenders fan.
