Description

When I was 12 years old I read an article in a fanzine about patriotic super-heroes. It featured Captain America, The Shield... and Uncle Sam. It contained the classic Reed Crandall cover to "National Comics" # 26. Like so many others over the decades, I was taken by the art. What a classic image! Years later I saw an ad for the Artist Terry Twigg that featured his rendition of the cover. I bought it right away. (from there as you can see from my gallery, it started a string of amazing commissions by Terry) This re-creation is done in pastels and is HUGE... 20x24. It's so amazing in person, no photograph could do it justice. It's also uncannily faithful to the original. The art is framed which makes taking a good picture a challenge. But I did the best I could. Hopefully the majesty of this artwork shines through.

What a glorious use of pastels. I really would have guessed oil paint. Wonderful piece of work.
