Description(2001, Graphite, brush and ink on bristol board, 13”x28”)Crom!! This is the monochromatic dust jacket cover art for The Coming of Conan the Cimmerian (Wandering Star). The published art has a wonderful painting by Mark overlaid in the centre, he added the stalking Conan after publication to make it a finished piece. It’s an incredibly cool and sprawling work, reflecting Conan’s adventures in Hyboria. Intricate contrasting textures with a montage of cities, skulls, shields, spears, make this one of my favourite piece in my collection, it’s perfect. With cold intent in Conan’s face and gait, he looks to be coming to conquer the viewer! It’s also the last centre spread in Various Drawings 3. A true grail piece for me, it’s epic, it’s Conan, and it’s Schultz!! Cheers Frank! And of course Mark for labouring over this giant beauty =) Social/Sharing |

The detailed scan you posted clearly shows the different techniques the artist employed to make this piece look epic. Will look stunning fully framed.

Awesome and amazing piece. See my gallery for Mark's prelimiinary for this piece, which I snatched up seconds after I saw it in Mark's portfolio in SD back in 2007. As an FYI, we also used this piece as the cover of CFA-apa #77 with Mark's kind permission.
