Description

WOW! My first Silver Age Kirby page!

Not only is this historic page from the book that first introduced the Wasp to the world, but these carefully crafted panels show Janet van Dyne donning her costume for the first time, shrinking for the first time ("Ooh! It feels so -- so weird!"), and also growing her wings for the first time!

AAAND, on the last panel, she tells Ant-Man that she is falling in love with him for the first time, thus beginning one of the longest and most tumultuous roller-coaster rides of romance in Marvel history.

I'm still really sad that the Wasp died. Guess that's it ... no major Marvel character has ever been brought back to life before, so ....

A real piece of history. That fifth panel ("come now, you will try your wings"), it is almost moving. A beauty.

Thanks for your comment, Lorenzo (and thanks to everyone else too for your input!). Thank you for pointing out that fifth panel comment by Ant Man. You're right, it is kind of emotional, the gentle way Ant Man says it, and how dramatic a moment it really is for both characters, and for Marvel history as a whole. For me, this page is the gift that keeps on giving!

Kirby, kinda a bit ahead of his time, eh? ;) the page is insane, but besides that it's interesting to be reminded about things like lettering - here it doesn't have the same standardized feel as Marvel in the 80-90s when I was growing up. I just watched a short video on that & it was enlightening.

Oh my word !!! This is historic. My first ever comic was Avengers 26 which featured the return of the Wasp in a battle versus Attuma. ( I would give an arm, a leg and a kidney or lung  for a page from that story ) I have such a soft spot for this character. Heck was the penciller on that Avengers tale but this Kirby/Heck page brings Janet Van Dyne to a whole new level
