DescriptionMarch 2, 2012 was one of the best days of my life. My friend Joe F. was going to Steel City and I asked him if he could help me pick out a finished piece. Not only did he help me but he also shocked me by putting Mr. O'Barr on the phone so that I could talk to him! That was the biggest thrill- to speak to an artist/writer I've admired for years. I still don't know how I kept my composure. And he was soo sweet! This piece is gorgeous and now, because I finally have a new camera, I can put up the actual piece very soon. However I think this photo is pretty awesome. Joe, I truly can't thank you enough. Thank you for everything. :) Social/Sharing |

Congrats Holly on this amazing piece you managed to get. James looks quite happy and it appears he is adding more shading in his commissions, hopefully I will get another from him soon for the collection.

He picked it out for me calling it 'the best in his book'. Even though I love this piece to death, I can't wait to get another one. His work is addictive and I wish you all the best in getting your commission. I can't say enough great things about Mr. O'Barr. :)

Oh I have some commissions from James starting back in 1993. I also get other artist interpretations of the character, you should check out my gallery here on comicartfans when you get a spare moment. :)

You have commissions from 1993? Colour me green with envy! I'm also interested in how other artists interpret Eric/The Crow and will definitely check out your gallery. :)

Back in 2006 James was offering a really nice Crow sketchbook via his eBay site. They were hardcover illustrated cover design sketchbooks with blank pages inside to have sketches done, and he would offer them with an original two-page splash sketch on the inside front cover. They would end for around $60-$80 on eBay, so I managed to get one and started getting other artist interpretations back in 2007. The most recent one I had done was in April 2012 by Detective Comics artist Tony Daniel.

Those were some pretty intense pages, very emotionally charged. I'll let myself be vulnerable. They broke my heart... in just those pages alone, O'Barr created something special. I am sorry you had to sell them. But you have one that, alone, may speak volumes and might be the best one out of all that you collected. I don't know.. I'm going to have to go see. :)
