Description

Standard Comics Team-Up #155 (March 1976)
The Terror of London!!

Legendary Victorian London detective Sherlock Holmes encounters not one, but two, mythical figures in foggy London town -- the rat-like vampire Count Orlok, and English folkloric-figure, Spring-Heeled Jack. Can Holmes defeat them? Is SHJ what he appears to be? Only one way to find out - buy this issue!

Setting the Standard in (Team-Up) Comics!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Another goodie from Michael Walsh, featuring a couple of Victorian "super-heroes":
Sherlock Holmes, whose appearance here is based on the first actor to portray him on stage (William Gillette), and a version of
Spring-Heeled Jack that Craig Cermak designed for me.
The villain, Count Orlok, is from the silent film "Nosferatu" (1922), which was set around 1838. Maybe the events in the movie (i.e. he gets killed at the end) weren't entirely accurate and he made it to the Victorian era. Well, he certainly did in this comic anyway. What happens in comics universes when our fiction becomes real? Does that mean the novels or movies were never made, or that they just secretly depicted real events fictitiously? Who knows (or cares, you say)?
All's I know is, Holmes is one of my favorite characters (right after Batman and probably before Captain Kirk. Suck it, Hamlet!), Orlok is creepy as hell (the movie is perhaps difficult to appreciate on modern terms as straight-up entertainment, but man, it sets up a mood - put yourself in the place of someone from 1922 seeing this stuff for the first time!), and Jack just be cool.
The title, "The Terror of London", could refer to the presence of the undead blood-sucker and/or the name of a penny dreadful featuring Jack. Take your pick. God, I'm clever.
Obviously, the cover dress to come ... impatient, I am.
