I fell in love with this piece at first sight. Allison Sohn is no Adam Hughes, Frank Cho or Bruce Timm, but I think that, at her best, she matches them in depicting female beauty and she has feel for the classic look that adds to her appeal. This piece has strengths on several levels. The first is her nearly perfect rendering of every curve of an ideal tight, athletic woman’s torso, so many girlie artists get this wrong, doing things like putting in a six pack amidships. Then, there is the effective and subtle use of colors, its quiet eroticism, the art nouveau touches, etc. It approaches the line between a beautiful picture and a salacious one without crossing it, at least in my mind, because of the subtlety, artistry and classic look.

Allison’s technique here is masterful and innovative, cleverly using multiple media to achieve this look. The overall flavor was achieved by using colored paper, (the color of the margins) and using lighter opaque material to create the lighter colors.

Allison did this for another collector who put it for sale and it was just by luck that I was cruising Ebay four hours before its end. He described it as a charcoal and as a work signed by “A. Sohn”. I had cited it to Allison previously as an exceptional piece. She said something very nice when she heard that I got it. She said that my gallery is where this piece “belonged all along,” I agree.

Most certainly one of her better ones. There are so few female participants here, and to have one who fairly regularly demonstrates her not unconsiderable talents is a pleasure, indeed. She has left several comments on my own gallery, and has proven herself to be not only talented, but pleasant and a genuine sweetheart. She has more than one image in my keeper file. I'm extremely pleased to hear you got this one--congrats.

it's nice to hear that a lady with this much talent is also a nice lady as well. i've seen several of her works and think they are amazing. one day i'll have to try for one myself.
