Description
Way back in the late 1960's when I was a kid, my folks and I would visit my Grandmother who lived in Florida. Some of the memories I recall from those trips included 1) it seemed to take forever to drive from Maryland to Florida; 2) Once we got to my Grandmothers place, the trip was worth it as she had a pool, and 3) my Grandmother was a big fan of the Pogo newspaper strips. She saved a bunch of the newspaper strips and let me read them when I visited. I enjoyed checking out the funny animals that were drawn, but was too young at the time to understand some of the humor contained in the script. I collected the reprint books when I got older and was then able to appreciate what a genius Walt Kelly was.

I am very happy to add this Sunday page to my collection; it has several cute gags in the script and Pogo appears in almost every panel. My wife also likes the piece and will let me display the framed art in a prime location at home, so that is a big bonus! In the future, I plan to add several more Pogo strips to my collection and hope to eventually obtain examples of all the major characters.

Well, how not to love Pogo? I do agree that Kelly really was a genius of the genre: congrats on getting such a beautiful sample of his work, Jim, both in terms of art and script!

So much beauty in the elegant simplicity of his art.
