I loved DC's dollar comics when I was a kid because they offered so much comics storytelling and a diversity of characters. I also realize now I was interested in the diversity of talent on display in each issue. This page -- the fourth page of a short Jimmy Olsen story -- features the clean linework of Jose Delbo and Joe Giella. I got this page from the Lewis Wayne Gallery for a rock-bottom price, and I'm quite pleased with it. The somewhat unconventional panel layouts in the bottom two thirds of the page, with the diagonal gutter slicing down from right to left, nevertheless flows quite well.

There are other reasons why I love this page. First of all, it features Jimmy Olsen on the job in the newsroom of The Daily Planet. As a newspaper reporter, I'm drawn to pages that feature the profession of journalism. The prominence of journalism in the super-hero comics of my youth may even have played a role in my choice of career, who knows? Furthermore, this scene features an employee telling off his boss. Who wouldn't enjoy a chance at such a scenario at one point (or several) in his or her life?
